THESEUS AND THE MAZE

The performance moved from the reading circle into the Central Lobby of the Swiss Cottage Library. The audience was encouraged to follow Theseus through a string maze of their own making, as if the group to be sacrificed with Theseus.

I wrote a site-specific version of the myth of Theseus that collaborated with the space and audience to build the story within a London library.

The audience arrived for the Story Circle, framed by the library’s spiral staircase. As the storyteller spoke of Theseus, he appeared at the top of one staircase, bringing the myth to life. He took control of his own story, coming down the stairs to swim across the sea of listeners.
